Asin Tibuok

Asin Tibuok is a traditional Filipino artisanal sea salt originating from the island of Bohol, Philippines. Its name literally means “whole salt” in the Cebuano language. It is known for its unique egg-shaped appearance, dark gray to black color, and distinctive production process that has been passed down through generations.

Asin Tibuok is made from two main ingredients:

  1. Seawater – Provides the natural salt content.

  2. Coconut husks – Burned into ash and used to filter seawater, producing a concentrated saltwater solution (brine).

The brine is then boiled in clay pots over a fire until the salt forms a solid, egg-shaped structure.

In short: Asin Tibuok is made from seawater and coconut husks, using a traditional Boholano salt-making process.
